I was in MOMA yesterday — the Queens version of the Museum of Modern Art. The “real” version, located in Manhattan, is under construction. Rather than close altogether, MOMA relocated to a smaller space in Long Island City.
I was about to hand my ticket to a staff person to enter the museum, when a woman, child in stroller, walked up to him. “There’s more upstairs?” she said, in a pretty snotty tone. “No, m’am. Only on this floor.” “That’s it?! This is all there is?” “Yes, m’am,” said the guard, looking increasingly perplexed, as the “Rebuilding MOMA” display was directly in the woman’s line of sight. She huffed away.
The guard and I stared at each other for a moment, and we both cracked up. I said, “‘Is this all there is?’ Isn’t this enough?!”
