From the "Put the mouse down and back slowly, slowly away" Dept.:

A font walks into a bar. The bartender says, "We don't serve your type in here."

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...

a very moving entry

The move, at long last, is done. Everything that was over at Michael's place is now here, at my tiny apartment in Queens.

Big, big, BIG thanks to Laura, who was able to supervise my move FOR ME at my apartment in Queens when, due to a minor snafu, I had to take the LIRR from Michael's house to Manhattan, and then a cab to my apartment. (I was supposed to have gotten a ride from Michael's to my place, but things happened and I had to adjust. No one's fault.)

My movers KICKED FUCKING BUTT and I will definitely use them again. *So* fast. *So* organized. * Whew. * If you're in Manhattan or the boroughs, they're called "Rabbit Movers" and they rock.

All the boxes made it into my tiny little apartment. However, I've been working with the Box Monolith for the greater part of today. :) I've thrown out about five boxes of crap. My arms may never be the same. (Ouch ouch ouch...) The books are all in one spot (they'll go on the bookcases soon as the CD tower that goes in between the bookcases gets here), and the kitchen stuff, while still in boxes, is actually in my actual kitchen. And, yeah, mini-storage (self storage) is definitely in my future. Gah.

Emotionally, I've been better, as you all could figure. I'm going what Michael went through in reverse -- the unpacking process is bringing back a ton of memories. Hell, just seeing our kitchen table in my apartment is blowing me away. I'm glad it's here (I have CHAIRS!), but I have memories of me and Michael and our friends eating at that table, and it makes me very, very sad. Which means I'll just have to have a party soon. I'll hang tinsel off the Box Monolith, it'll be great... :D

and then...

Running late (yes, again). Had a shower that could best be described as "tepid," despite having the hot water all the way up and the cold all the way down. Frantic grabbing of recyclables and garbage on my way out the door. Pouring rain. Should have worn a much warmer top today, preferably a sweater. Shit, shit, shit!

And then, rushing down the street, I heard a man talking to the coffee-cart guy. Irish accent. 40s. "Na, it's a nice Irish day. Good for the grass, you know." And he smiled and sipped his coffee, clearly content despite the rain and the cold.

"I love that man," I thought, as I rushed to get on the subway.

Go read this Web site about celebrity fashion fuckups. And then think on this: celebrities don't dress like you or me. THEY DRESS WORSE.

Completely fucking brilliant: The Sweater Project, featuring sweaters from the mid-80s -- bought at a Marshall's in Ohio. Best one -- the "Gene Simmons' retirement home collection, or, Mr. Rogers returns from the 12th Level of Hades."

election results

|

The re-election of President Bush will affect everything about our society. If the Bush administration has their way, what publications we can purchase and read, as adult Americans, will be limited still further. Some publications may be banned, and some authors of those publications may be prosecuted.

The specific publications that I'm talking about are comic books. For those of you who read comic books, I'm preaching to the choir. For those of you who are thinking, "Oh. Comic books? Who cares, it's only comic books," please think again. If I'd substituted "books," or "music," or "art," for "publications," would you be thinking the same way?

The executive director of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund discusses how the election results will affect the comics industry -- and our rights to free speech -- in this interview with the Comics Reporter. Read and think.

Election Wishes for 2008

May the Democrats get a kick-ass candidate for 2008 that we can all get behind -- and one with a large broom and mop to clean up the mess that GWB will leave as his eight-year legacy.

May the people in the eleven states that voted against gay marriage wake up and realize that marriage is a union of love, not gender.

And may I never, ever, move out of the state of New York -- where all of my local, Democratic candidates were thankfully voted in.

vote vote vote

I've already voted -- I cast my vote for Kerry at 7:45 this morning. If you're local, polls in the tri-state area close at 9:00 tonight. If you're not registered, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and Wyoming all offer same-day voter registration (which allows people to register to vote at the polls on election day) and North Dakota has no voter registration at all.

There is no reason not to vote -- make sure you're heard and VOTE TODAY!
