December 2004 Archives

next!

It's been a long, draining, sad year. There have been a few bright spots -- one or two have burned exceptionally bright, and been exceptionally comforting throughout -- but I can definitely say that this past year has been one of my roughest to date. Separation from your spouse is not an easy thing, even if you're the one that left. If I'd known it would be this hard, I don't think I would even have had the guts to try.

Lesson learned this year: take joy where you can find it.

I want 2005 to be a steady year. An improving year; one that will help me feel like my feet are firmly planted somewhere. One that will let me put down roots, even if they're in a rental apartment. :) Fireworks and glitter are always welcome, but a solid hug will work just as well for me right now.

Resolution: to be kinder this year.

High hopes for everyone's 2005. Cheers...

Oh. Oh. Oh, my God. I am so jealous of my West Coast brethren. I'm quivering with jealousy. The reason for the tizzy: San Francisco has a Dance-Along Nutracker and WE DON'T.

What is the "Dance-Along Nutracker?" Well, it's THIS: "While the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band plays Nutcracker favorites like Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Waltz of the Flowers, sugar plum wannabes of all ages leap and pirouette about the dance floor. Tutu rentals and fairy wands are available for those with nothing special to wear."

Tutus and fairy wands. FAIRY. WANDS. I want to dance around to the Nutracker with a tutu and fairy wand, damnit! And glitter. GLITTER! My boobs would bounce, my hair would sparkle, and I could wave my wand with the best of them! Why does San Francisco get to have all the fun?!

I'll be on an extended pout for the rest of the week.

the flu has finally wiped my brain

Home sick with the flu, and I just spent five minutes in the middle of my living room imitating an animatronic figurine...

...for my own amusement.

what's that song?

|

New addiction, and because it's Christmas, I'm gonna share: "What's that Song?" is an online game you play where you select a group, they play a song, you get a multiple-choice to guess what it is. Ten songs from a single group.

The home page gives you a random game to start -- and most were bands I'd never heard of -- so I'm giving you a specific one to start with. Have fun playing the Led Zeppelin edition! :) (For the record: 9/10, average time 7.2 seconds.) You can also play the last 50 games -- check for the link at the bottom.

Enjoy...

buy blue!

|

Verrrrry interesting site about what corporations gave to which political party. Buy Blue shows, for example, which party Amazon supported (mostly Republican, with a much smaller contribution to the Democrats) vs. which party Barnes & Noble supported (Democrat). It's a new site that's just beginning to analyze data; I hope they stay with it.

The fine print: "... numbers are based on contributions from PACs, soft money donors, and individuals giving $200 or more. (Only those groups giving $5,000 or more are listed.) In many cases, the organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates. All donations took place during the 2003-2004 election cycle and were released by the Federal Election Commission on Monday, October 25, 2004."

As I've said before, it's good to know what organizations or political groups your local vendors support.

Great article about bands that are neither overrated nor underrated -- they're just right.
