a public service announcement…with spam!
If you have your own blog, read this — if not, move along, nothing to see here…
Derek posted something today that made me very happy: Google has adopted a tag to help alleviate comment spam. Most of the blogging software platforms have begun to adopt it, such as LiveJournal, WordPress, and, natch, Moveable Type. (If you have a TypePad installation — Mr. Smith, I’m looking at you — this has been implemented automatically. You need do nothing.)
Mind, this does not mean comment spam will end overnight. The vendors, the people who are spamming to begin with, need to know that this has taken place and their methods no longer work. That news may take a while. Things need to be implemented — not everyone will put this on their blogs right away. But hey, it’s a start — and at least Google has acknowledged that this is an issue.
