things that go *beep* in the night
* Beeeeep! *
I woke up to a rather happy beeping sound the other morning. R had already left for work, so it was up to me to run around the apartment and try to find what was making the noise.
* Beeeeep! *
Smoke alarm? No. Carbon monoxide alarm? Nope. Nor was it the TV remote, cordless phone, cell phone, external hard drive, Tivo, Xbox, other TV remote, stove, electric razor, or either of our alarm clocks.
* Beeeeep! *
It wasn’t coming from the hallway, or the apartment next door. It wasn’t a bird (we’re on the 16th floor, it could happen). The windows were closed, and it was too echoey to be anything but inside our apartment.
* Beeeeep! *
I left for work in frustration — after satisfying myself that the apartment wasn’t about to blow up from whatever was making that sound. R professed ignorance about it, and we both came home to find the apartment blessedly quiet. Until…
* Beeeeep! *
For about half-an-hour while I was home sick yesterday. Still have no idea what it was.

I had the same experience the other night, except with LIGHT. Turns out that it was a blinking LED on a cell phone. It’s much darker in the loft than it is downstairs, so the light wasn’t easy to find on the phone that was downstairs, but upstairs its pulses seemed to light up the room.
